 - Coal is by far the cheapest source of power fuel per million BTU.

 - Coal burns as clean as natural gas and heating oil.

 - Coal is directly responsible for more than 90,000 U.S. jobs and nearly one million jobs directly and indirectly.

 - Coal mining has a combined direct and indirect impact of $161 billion annually on the U.S. economy.

 - Coal plants account for 52% of the electricity generated. This amount is 86% of the total U.S. coal production.

 - The U.S. produces about 20% or 1.1 billion tons of the world's coal supply, second only to China. Demand for coal in developing countries will double by the year 2020.

 - The U.S. has enormous coal resources and recoverable reserves. The most recent figures show 275 billion tons, an amount greater than any other nation in the world. This is capable of meeting domestic demand for more than 250 years.

 - U.S. coal deposits contain more energy than that of ALL the world's oil reserves.
